As a first-time mom, stepping into the world of parenthood can feel overwhelming. From selecting the right stroller to deciding on the best crib mattress, the sheer volume of baby products available can make your head spin. On top of that, everyone you encounter has an opinion on what you need and don't need. So, let's dive into this maze and sort out the essentials from the "nice to haves."

The Must-Haves

  • Diapers and wipes: Stock up on these essentials. You'll go through more than you can imagine. We have found that Huggies are the best ever, great for sensitive skin and they really help limit the blowouts!!

  • Convertible car seat: When looking for a car seat for your little one, it's important to pick a good one that meets all the safety rules and will work for them as they get bigger. Both car seats I linked go up to 100 lbs. I have linked the one we use (which we love) and also linked one that is also good which is a 360-degree car seat. The 360 car seat is great for easily getting your baby in and out of the car seat. The 360 seat is better if you have a bigger car as it is a bulkier car seat.

  • Stroller: Your baby's stroller becomes a staple in your life. When we were looking for a stroller we wanted something that was easy to fold and would work with an infant car seat. The Evenflo car seat is just that. There are a lot of strollers that come with an infant car seat and base which is great! I also linked a double stroller that converts into a double stroller if you have more than one kiddo.

  • Crib or bassinet: Sleep is something you will cherish when you can get it so having a safe space for baby to sleep is super important! I have linked a bedside bassinet that we use, the Halo bassinet. It is super functional and easy to use. I have also linked the crib that we use in her nursery, we bought this crib because it is a 3-in-1 so it will grow with her!

  • Breastfeeding or bottle-feeding supplies: No matter what your breastfeeding journey is, I think that each of these things will be helpful for you in one way or another :)

  • Baby clothing: Keep it simple with onesies, sleepers, and a few outfits for special occasions. Babies only wear so much when they are so little so it helps to have some good basics! These are some basics we used for the first month and they come in lots of different colors and patterns. I have a pretty neutral style for my baby so these were some favorites!

  • Baby bathing essentials: Bath time has become part of our sacred nighttime routine! These are must-haves for us: bathtub, towels, soap, and toys (of course).

  • Baby monitor: We chose a monitor that has both audio and video. This monitor has good video quality, even when the room is dark. We have also been impressed with the battery life on our monitor. I have also included other baby monitors in different price ranges!

The Nice-to-Haves

  • Baby swing or bouncer: We use both of these and they are amazing for getting a hands-free moment! The 4moms swing has 5 different motions and has a sound machine. This is an amazing swing to have when I need to get things done. The baby delight bouncer is easy to travel with and is easy to store with how nicely it folds down.

  • High chair: While we haven't used a high chair yet, we know the time will come soon. We have 2 different chairs, one that attaches to the table and one that is free-standing. The one that attaches to the table is great for an area with minimal space or traveling!

  • Baby carrier or wrap: These are also great for a hands-free moment. I use the wrap a lot around the house when my little one needs a nap but I have lots that need to get done. Both of these can grow with the baby and multiple different positions you can put a baby in.

  • Changing pad: We have been using the Keekaroo changing pad and it has been amazing. It is so easy to wipe down and also matches the aesthetic of our nursery.

As a first-time mom, you'll quickly realize that everyone has an opinion on what you should or shouldn't buy for your baby. Friends, family, and even strangers may offer their insights, which can be overwhelming and confusing. Remember, there's no one-size-fits-all answer when it comes to parenting, I will just tell you to trust your instincts and do/buy what you feel is right for your family! You know your baby best. Consider your own lifestyle, budget, and personal preferences when making decisions. Remember, what worked for one mom may not work for you, and that's perfectly okay. Focus on the essentials, invest in high-quality items that will last, and remember that you are the expert on your baby's needs. Trust yourself, enjoy the journey, and embrace the incredible adventure of motherhood!
